Amazon.com Product Description The Giro Rift bike helmet is an ideal choice for riders who want cool comfort and rugged good looks without breaking the bank. The helmet is made using Giro's in-mold construction, which fuses the helmet's outer shell with an impact-absorbing EPS liner. Not only does this reinforce both layers, but the "exoskeleton" also allows Giro to engineer helmets that are lighter, more durable, and better ventilated. The helmet also employs Giro's patented Acu Dial fit system, which hugs the back of your head and reduces the tendency of your helmet to shift forwards or backwards. Unlike most system, the Acu Dial's design provides adjustable tension independent of the helmet straps. This means you don't have to overtighten the straps to enjoy a snug, comfortable fit. The bike's premium features conclude with a whopping 24 cooling events, keeping you well ventilated on both short and long rides. p bAbout Giro/bbr Working late nights in his garage, designer/bike racer Jim Gentes created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in 1985. Friends at NASA helped tune the final helmet shape and vent placement, and the result was the Giro Prolight, a helmet that was better looking than traditional designs while offering a superior fit and still met the industry's toughest safety standards. Plus, it was half the weight of traditional helmets. Since then, Giro has advanced its helmets, many of which have set the standards for styling, function, and innovation for progressive, performance-oriented riders on dirt, pavement, and snow. Giro helmets are worn by millions of riders, cyclists, skiers, and snowboarders around the world. Young-bloods and old-timers; hard-cores, heshers, and hipsters; rookies, experts, and a few regular Joes too--in fact, pretty much anyone that appreciates superior fit and function, cutting edge styling, and the very best ideas you get in a helmet.p

1st time Giro user - Great helmet! March 5, 2009 Landon Heeres (WV - USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This helmet has great a great fit (even for my odd shaped head). I love the quick adjuster. The vents provide great air-flow to keep you cool while riding. I am a mountain biker. I'm preparing for my first triathlon. Luckily I have no idea how well this helmet performs in an impact situation because I haven't wrecked yet. Hopefully I will never have to write a review about how well this helmet performed when I wrecked (knock on wood).

Hard to ask for more August 24, 2008 Bruce Gregory (Deep River, Connecticut) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is my third Giro helmet. Like the others, the Rift is light-weight, comfortable, and easy to adjust. The biggest challenge I faced was mounting my Third-eye mirror. Attached to the side of the visor the mirror works like a charm. I can't think of any way to improve the combination. Oh yes, the price is reasonable as well.
Light and comfortable; awesome upgrade helmet! July 21, 2009 Robert Larson (New York, NY United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Just starting biking instead of driving about 2 months ago, and needed a helmet that was comfortable, looked good, and was still affordable. After a bit of research, I learned that the better helmets were lighter, while still giving the same amount of protection. More openings in the helmet meant better air flow (so your head stays cool), lighter weight, but also a bit higher price tag.

br /After comparing a few helmets on Amazon in the $50 range, I decided on this one based on the look and what I perceived to be a good air flow. I've put over 300 miles on my bike so far, and I can honestly say it's easy to forget the helmet is even on. Having only worn toy-store quality hemets before, this was an incredible upgrade.
br /
br /It's feather-light, and it rests on my head comfortably with an easy-to-use dial at the back for making it fit snugly. The straps looked a bit uncomfortable at first sight, but as soon as you snap the buckle together you forget they are there.

br /AND THE AIRFLOW! WOW!! I don't even know if that's the right word for it... but this helmet keeps my head very cool. I live in SoCal with 75-90 degree weather lately, but even with commutes as long as 20 miles, the wind rushes right through the helmet, across my head as I ride, and my head does not get hot and sweaty.

br /I don't know how they did it, but thank you Giro for this gift to bikers!
Good, secure, inexpensive helmet July 14, 2009 Alexander Timofeyev 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I liked the ventilation design of the Rift better than the cheaper Indicator, and I liked the Accu-Dial system on Rift better than on the more expensive Phase (the Rift felt more secure). If the Rift had 3 different sizes like the Phase does, it would be perfect.
br /
br /Pros: Inexpensive; very secure fit; front band is very good at catching sweat and keeping it out of your eyes; looks good; comfortable enough.
br /
br /Cons: Straps seem to lie oddly, and took a while to get adjusted initially so they felt right; one-size-fits-all design can make you feel like you're wearing a helmet that's too big.
Giro Rift Helmet September 17, 2008 J. Carlson (Illinois) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The helmet really is a "one size fits all". The holes channel the air and keep you cool. Light and comfortable.
